Artist Statement:
Ritual is an abstract expressionist work inspired by my long-standing fascination with occult and supernatural themes, particularly as portrayed in horror cinema. This piece serves as both a tribute to and a critique of how ritualistic practices — especially those tied to witchcraft — have been misinterpreted, demonized, and sensationalized through pop culture and history.
Rather than leaning into fear or fantasy, Ritual seeks to acknowledge the deeper, often misunderstood roots of these traditions. It’s about giving credit where credit is due — recognizing that ritual, in many forms, has been a source of meaning, power, and healing across cultures and generations.
The layered textures and raw brushwork are meant to evoke the mystery, repetition, and intensity of ceremonial practice — something both ancient and immediate, feared and revered.
