Artist Statement:

Dystopian is an abstract acrylic painting that reflects my fascination with post-apocalyptic science fiction and doomsday narratives. Inspired by the aesthetic of futuristic ruin, this piece imagines what a doomsday insignia or fragment of street art might look like in a world reshaped by collapse — something weathered, industrial, and raw, yet still carrying a strange sense of renewal.

Created using foam brush layering, palette knife scraping, and blending techniques, the painting aims to blur the line between decay and innovation. The surface shows signs of wear, yet there’s an intentional brightness beneath the gloom — a visual paradox that invites the viewer to decide whether they’re witnessing something hopeful or haunting.

The duality of Dystopian is central to its meaning: it can feel uplifting or ominous, depending on the viewer’s perspective. That tension between despair and possibility, ruin and reinvention, is at the heart of the piece — much like the dystopian worlds that inspired it.
