Artist Statement:
Tired of Trying is a deeply personal abstract work that reflects the emotional exhaustion of chasing a sense of contentment and achievement that always seems just out of reach. Much of my life has been spent working hard — physically, mentally, and emotionally — in blue-collar jobs that, while necessary, never truly resonated with who I am or how I see myself. Like many, I unconsciously adopted the status expectations shaped by my upbringing — only to later realize that those ideals were not mine to carry, and perhaps never fit me at all.
This painting represents a space between disappointment and acceptance — the sadness of feeling like you’ve failed, the clarity that comes with self-awareness, and the quiet hope that comes with choosing a new path. Tired of Trying captures the weariness of pushing toward a goal that feels undefined, unmeasurable, and maybe even unreachable — and the courage it takes to question whether the goal was ever yours to begin with.
Created using layered acrylics and round brush techniques, the composition is meant to evoke the feeling of being worn down, yet still in motion. There’s an intentional rawness — a visual echo of the expressions worn by those who keep going long after they’ve passed their breaking point, clinging to the hope that something meaningful will eventually come from the effort.
Though I haven’t yet fully embraced a new direction, this piece is a step toward accepting that different doesn’t mean failure — it might just mean freedom.
