Title: Numbers
Original Size: 14 x 11 in
Medium: Acrylic
Surface: Stretched Canvas
Artist Statement:
Numbers is an abstract expression of how I’ve learned to cope with a restless, often chaotic mind. Throughout my life, I’ve found comfort in occupying myself with structured tasks — taking something simple and layering complexity into it. This process, which began unconsciously in childhood, has followed me into adulthood as a way to manage overwhelming thoughts and emotional noise.
What I once saw as habits, I now recognize as coping mechanisms — strategies to create order where there is none, to calm the internal storm, to keep things from spilling over. These rituals of organization have become a kind of mental architecture — a dam holding back what might otherwise be too much.
Created with palette knife, foam brush, and layered acrylic techniques, Numbers resembles a puzzle that’s both fractured and whole. The shapes and symbols within it don’t appear to fit, yet together they form something that feels strangely complete. There’s a quiet tension in the piece — a sense of discomfort balanced with intentional design.
Numbers is meant to feel like a coded message from a cluttered mind: confusing at first, but ultimately speaking to the human need for control, for pattern, for understanding — even when none of it makes perfect sense.
